Monitoring

Domain expiry monitor

Get warned before a domain registration expires.

What it checks

Uptiva looks up the registration data of a domain. The monitor is down when the domain is expired, and Degraded when it expires within your warning days.

When to use it

For every domain you own. A forgotten renewal takes the site, email and certificates down with it.

Create it

  1. Open /app and click New monitor.
  2. Under What to monitor choose Domain expiry.
  3. Under Details enter a Name and the Domain, for example example.com (the registered domain, not a sub domain).
  4. Under Rules set Warn when it expires within (days), 1 to 365.
  5. Under Alerts, in Expiry alerts, tick the days you want to be told: 60, 30, 14, 7, 3 or 1 day before.
  6. Click Create monitor.

Check interval

Fixed: once a day. There is no interval to choose, because registration data changes rarely. You are alerted at the first failed check.

What the monitor page shows

A Details card, Registration section:

  • Domain, expires (with the days left), registered date, last updated.
  • Registrar and registrar URL, name servers, status codes, DNSSEC and the lookup method.

Some registries share less data than others, so a few rows can be empty.

Alerts

Expiry alerts send a message 60, 30, 14, 7, 3 and/or 1 days before the date (your choice) and once more if the domain expires. Each is sent once per expiry date; after a renewal the sequence starts over. With none ticked you are only told when the check fails. See Alerts for channels and quiet hours.

Common problems and limits

  • Lookup fails. Some registries share little or no registration data. The Details card then shows the failure.
  • Enter the domain itself. A sub domain such as www.example.com has no registration of its own.
